Sterols

Phytosterols, Phytosterole

Sterols are found in the unsaponifiable matter of fats. This means that they remain in the soap making and are mixed with the vegetable or animal fats and lye and finally saponified. Avocado and soy oil and shea butter are considered to be particularly rich in unsaponifiable constituents. Sterols thus obtained are very similar to the skin's own sterols, which contribute significantly to the natural barrier layer of the skin. Sterols help the skin retain moisture and leave a protective, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and reconstructive barrier on the skin.
